PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Senior Angela Chisholm (Millis, Mass.) led the Crusaders with 12 digs, but the Holy Cross volleyball team fell to Rhode Island, 3-0, on Saturday afternoon at the Brown Invitational by scores of 25-18, 25-21 and 25-19. With the loss, the Crusaders fall to 5-11 overall, while the Rams improve to 9-3 overall. This was the Crusaders' last match of the tournament as they went 0-3. Sophomore Megan Lynch (Mendham, N.J.) was named to the All-Tournament team as she recorded 29 kills and 24 digs in the three matches.
Chisholm now has 907 career digs which moves her to fifth all-time at Holy Cross. She leads the team this season with 194 digs and has recorded double-digit digs in 10 matches. Senior setter Chelsey O'Donnell (Pittsburgh, Pa.) tallied 20 assists, while senior Rebecca DeSanti (Hampden, Mass.) and Lynch each recorded seven kills. Sophomore Liz Ashton (Milford, Mass.) led the team with three total blocks and junior Kathleen Colpoys (Scituate, Mass.) added six kills. Colpoys also led the team with two aces.
The Rams were led by Britta Baarstad who recorded 10 kills, while Ashley Tennant tallied 19 digs. Jill Anderson led the team with three total blocks and Kayla Wilson led the Rams with four aces.
The Crusaders return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 22, when they play Central Connecticut at the Holy Cross Field House at 7:00 p.m.
