WORCESTER, Mass. - Alana Taylor posted 14 kills for the Leopards as the Holy Cross volleyball team fell to Lafayette, 3-0, on Saturday afternoon at the Holy Cross Field House by scores of 25-21, 25-14 and 25-18. With the loss, the Crusaders conclude the season 5-24 overall (3-11 Patriot League), while the Leopards end the season 14-13 (5-9 Patriot League).
Senior Samantha Surface (Fresno, Calif.) recorded nine digs and added two kills on Senior Day. Freshman Megan Lynch (Mendham, N.J.) led the Crusaders with eight kills and 10 digs. She concludes the season with 371 kills which are the second most at Holy Cross for a single-season and the most ever by a Crusader freshman. Junior setter Chelsey O'Donnell (Pittsburgh, Pa.) had 16 assists and six digs as she ends the season with 893 assists which are the second most all-time for a single-season at the school. Junior libero Angela Chisholm (Millis, Mass.) recorded five digs giving her 360 which are third all-time.
Cara Mulholland also had a strong match for Lafayette with nine kills, while Ashton Rossi was impressive with 31 assists. Kari Horn was outstanding defensively with 19 digs.
Before the match the Holy Cross Athletic Department and the entire volleyball program took a moment and recognized Surface for her dedication to the team-on and off the court-over the past four years. A native of Fresno, Calif., Surface was outstanding on the court over the last four seasons. This season she continued to be a major contributor as she ranked third on the team with 188 kills and 1.86 kills per set, while she was also third with a career-best 221 digs. Earlier this season she was named to the Beanpot Classic All-Tournament Team. As a junior captain, Surface was once again an offensive force as she led the Crusaders with a career-best 209 kills, while as a sophomore she was third on the team with 187 kills. For her career, Surface played 97 matches with 673 kills, 519 digs, 88 blocks and 37 service aces.
