WORCESTER, Mass. - Senior Samantha Surface (Fresno, Calif.) recorded a season-best 14 kills and a career-best 16 digs, while freshman Megan Lynch (Mendham, N.J.) posted 14 kills and 13 digs, but the Holy Cross volleyball team fell to Lehigh, 3-1, on Friday night at the Holy Cross Field House by scores of 25-22, 19-25, 25-22 and 25-17. With the loss, the Crusaders fall to 5-23 overall (3-10 Patriot League), while the Mountain Hawks improve to 14-14 (7-6 Patriot League) and qualify for the Patriot League Tournament.
For Surface, the double-double was her third of the season and the ninth of her career. Lynch now has seven double-doubles this season. She also has 363 kills which are the second most ever for a single-season at Holy Cross and the most by a freshman as she ties Christine Strawson who had 363 kills in 2006. The record is 396 by Caitlin Agostinacchio in 2004. Junior setter Chelsey O'Donnell (Pittsburgh, Pa.) had a strong match with 47 assists as she now has 877 assists this season which are third all-time for a single-season. Junior libero Angela Chisholm (Millis, Mass.) recorded 10 digs as she now has 355 digs this season which are tied for third all-time. Sophomore Kathleen Colpoys (Scituate, Mass.) had 10 kills and freshman Callie Black (Fallon, Nev.) led the Crusaders with four blocks.
Lehigh was led by Angelika Kopacz who had 16 kills and 15 digs, while Jessica Kudirka had 49 assists. Emma Melendez posted 21 digs. Brittany Reichwein recorded 14 kills and Chelsea Sheridan had 13 kills.
The Crusaders conclude the season on Saturday, Nov. 14, when they play Lafayette at 4:00 p.m. on Senior Day at the Holy Cross Field House.
