ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Freshman Megan Lynch (Mendham, N.J.) recorded 15 kills as the Holy Cross volleyball team defeated Navy, 3-0, on Saturday afternoon at Wesley Brown Field House by scores of 25-16, 25-19 and 25-11. With the win, the Crusaders improve to 5-22 overall (3-9 Patriot League), while the Midshipmen fall to 7-20 (2-10 Patriot League). Holy Cross sweeps the season-series, 2-0, as the Crusaders won the first meeting by a score of 3-0 on Oct. 16.
Lynch has now recorded double-digit kills 19 times this season and has 349 for the season which ranks fourth on the Holy Cross all-time single-season kills list. Junior setter Chelsey O'Donnell (Pittsburgh, Pa.) had 26 assists. She now has 830 assists on the season which are fifth all-time on the school's single-season assists chart. Senior Samantha Surface (Fresno, Calif.) also had a strong match with six kills and nine digs. Junior libero Angela Chisholm (Millis, Mass.) tallied eight digs as she now has 345 for the season which is sixth all-time at Holy Cross. Freshman Callie Black (Fallon, Nev.) led the team with four blocks.
The Midshipmen were led by Meghan Carpenter and Abbie Merkl who each tallied seven kills, while Jenny Rudewicz posted 22 assists.
The Crusaders return to action when they conclude the 2009 season with two matches at the Holy Cross Field House. On Friday, Nov. 13, the Crusaders will play Lehigh at 7:00 p.m., while on Saturday, Nov. 14, Holy Cross will meet Lafayette at 4:00 p.m.
