PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Junior setter Chelsey O'Donnell (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and freshman Megan Lynch (Mendham, N.J.) each posted double-doubles, while junior libero Angela Chisholm (Millis, Mass.) recorded a career-best 30 digs, but the Holy Cross volleyball team fell to Brown, 3-2, on Friday night at the Pizzitola Center on the first day of the Brown Invitational by scores of 22-25, 25-19, 25-14, 19-25 and 15-9. With the loss, the Crusaders fall to 1-9 overall, while the Bears improve to 2-6 on the season.
O'Donnell had 40 assists and 13 digs for her fourth double-double of the season and the 15th of her career. Lynch tallied 16 kills and 11 digs for her second straight double-double and her third of the season. Her 16 kills ties her season-best performance as she has now recorded double-digit kills five times this season. Sophomore Kathleen Colpoys (Scituate, Mass.) tied her career best with 13 kills, while freshman Elizabeth Watters (San Francisco, Calif.) had a season-best 15 digs. Both Chisholm and Watters have recorded double-digit digs five times this season.
Brown was led by Spencer McAndrews who had 48 assists and 13 digs, while Moira Gallagher recorded 10 kills.
The Crusaders won the first set by a score of 25-22 as Colpoys led the way with five kills. The Bears responded by taking the next two sets by scores of 25-19 and 25-14. Holy Cross then forced a fifth set by winning the fourth, 25-19. Both Colpoys and Lynch had four kills. During the decisive fifth set, Brown jumped out to a 9-1 lead, but Holy Cross then won the next six points to make the score 9-7. The Bears then won the match by taking six of the last eight points, winning the set by a score of 15-9.
The Crusaders return to action when they compete on day two of the Brown Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 19. Holy Cross will take on Stony Brook at 1:00 p.m. and Brown for a second time at 4:00 p.m.
