WORCESTER, Mass. - Holy Cross athletic director Richard M. Regan, Jr., and volleyball coach Marritt Cafarchia have announced the Crusaders' 2009 schedule. Holy Cross is scheduled to play 28 regular season matches, including 11 at the Holy Cross Field House.
The Crusaders will play their season-opener at home versus Providence (Sept. 2). Holy Cross will then compete at the Sacred Heart Invitational (Sept. 4-5) against Sacred Heart (Sept. 4), Iona (Sept. 5) and Missouri-Kansas City (Sept. 5). After two road matches with Hartford (Sept. 7) and Bryant (Sept. 9), the Crusaders will host the Beanpot Classic (Sept. 12) and play matches versus Northeastern and Boston College. After playing at Central Connecticut State (Sept. 15), Holy Cross will participate at the Brown Invitational (Sept. 18-19), versus Brown (Sept. 18), Stony Brook (Sept. 19) and St. Francis (N.Y.) (Sept. 19).
The Crusaders will play at Harvard (Sept. 22) and then begin the Patriot League season with away matches against Colgate (Sept. 25), Bucknell (Sept. 26), Lafayette (Oct. 2) and Lehigh (Oct. 3). After playing its last non-conference match of the year with a home match versus Bryant (Oct. 8), Holy Cross will play five straight Patriot League matches at the Holy Cross Field House with contests against Army (Oct. 10), Navy (Oct. 16), American (Oct. 17), Bucknell (Oct. 23) and Colgate (Oct. 24). The Crusaders will conclude the regular season with matches at Army (Oct. 31), at American (Nov. 6), at Navy (Nov. 7), and home matches against Lehigh (Nov. 13) and Lafayette (Nov. 14).
The Patriot League Tournament will take place on Nov. 20-21, on the campus of the regular season champion. The top four teams in the final regular season standings will qualify for the tournament.
The Crusaders return 10 players with all six starters and welcome five freshmen.
