Dec. 11, 2006

WORCESTER, Mass. - Freshman Olivia Pruszko (Monroe, Conn.) has been named the Holiday Inn Express Crusader of the Week, for competition from December 4-10. Last weekend, Pruszko finished in first place at the Rhode Island Pentathlon in Kingston, R.I., to become the first Holy Cross athlete to ever win the event.

At the Rhode Island Pentathlon, Pruszko totaled 3,301 points, beating her nearest competitor by 123 points and posting the highest point total by a Crusader since 1988. She finished first in two out of the five individual events, taking the long jump with a leap of 5.01 meters, and dominating the 800-meter run with a time of 2:20.0 (winning by nearly 13 seconds). Pruszko also came in second in the shot put (8.95 meters), third in the high jump (1.58 meters) and fifth in the 60-meter hurdles (9.6 seconds).

The Crusaders return to action on Saturday, Dec. 16, when select individuals will take part in the Boston University Mini Series.
