HC Competes In New England Championship

Durham, N.H. - A select number of athletes on the Holy Cross men's and women's track and field teams competed at the New England Championship Thursday-Saturday, May 12-14 on the campus of the University of New Hampshire. The HC men placed 15th overall, while the women finished 28th.

Senior John Nieskens (Peterborough, N.H.) had the best finish for a Holy Cross competitor when he placed second in the 10000 meter run with a time of 31:27.89, earning eight points.

Junior Robert Leader (Leominster, Mass.) placed sixth in the 400 meter dash with a time of 50.48, while freshman Nathaniel Couture placed sixth in the javelin throw (54.81 m).

Sophomore Nicholas Carr (Concord, Mass.) placed 14th in the hammer throw with a toss of 49.05 meters.

On the women's side, Elizabeth Desmond finished fourth in the 10000 meter run with a time of 38:03.90 to lead the Crusaders with five points. Jessica Fallon, Courtney Walls and Kaitlin Palmer placed ninth, 11th and 16th, respectively in the pole vault competition.

Bethany Hiczek and Amanda Dupuis placed 11th and 12th, respectively in the Heptathlon, while Lindsey Bomar finished 21st in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:23.02.
