Women's Track & Field Announces Team Awards

WORCESTER, Mass. - Holy Cross head women's track and field coach Egetta Alfonso has announced team awards for the 2008-2009 season, along with captains for the 2009-2010 season. The Crusaders held a year end awards banquet on Wednesday, April 29.
Junior Maureen Meagher (Allentown, Pa.) received the Excellence in Track award and senior Lesley Bautista (St John's, Newfoundland.) received the Excellence in Field. Meagher led the Crusaders in the mid distance events, placing third in the one mile run at the Patriot League Indoor Championship with a time of 5:03.13. Bautista reset her school record in the pole vault, clearing a height of 3.7 meters at the ECAC Indoor Championship.
Sophomore Caitlin White (Miller Place, N.Y.) received the Outstanding Improvement in Track award and senior Katherine Clifford (Norwood, Mass.) received the Outstanding Improvement in Field award. White is a member of the school record setting sprint medley relay 4x100 and 4x200 teams. Clifford qualified for the ECAC Indoor Championship in the weight throw, finishing 20th with a distance of 13.50 meters.
Junior Tiffany Reid (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) received the Coach's Award for Excellence in Track and Field. Reid is a member of the school record setting sprint medley relay 4x100 and 4x200 teams. She also set a new school record in the 55 meter dash with a time of 7.38 and in the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.92. Junior Sarah Croteau (Westminster, Mass.) received the Alan Halper Distance Award. Croteau led Holy Cross with an eighth place finish in the 5,000 at the Patriot League Indoor Championships with a time of 17:54.27.
Freshman Katelyn Hartnett (Danvers, Mass.) received the Most Valuable Rookie Track award and freshman Alexandria Culkeen (Beverly, Mass.) received the Most Valuable Rookie Field award. Hartnett finished third at the Patriot League Indoor Championship in the 800 with a time of 2:16.66, while Culkeen finished sixth in the weight throw with a distance of 14.70 meters.
Juniors Rachel Amaral (Raynham, Mass.) and Olivia Pruszko (Monroe, Conn.), along with Reid and Croteau, were named captains for the 2009-2010 season. Amaral leads the team in the throwing events, while Prusko is the reigning Patriot League Indoor pentathlon champion.
The Holy Cross women's track and field team is preparing for the upcoming Patriot League Outdoor Championship on May 1-2, in West Point, N.Y.
