PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Junior Olivia Pruszko (Monroe, Conn.) set a new school record in the 300-meter dash as the Holy Cross women's track and field team kicked off the 2008-2009 indoor season at the Alden Invitational hosted by Brown University on Saturday, Dec. 6.
Pruszuko crossed the line in 42.56 seconds to set a Holy Cross school record in the 300 meter dash. In the one-mile run, junior Maureen Meagher (Allentown, Pa.) took first with a time of 5:10.69, followed closely by senior Katie Clay (Beverly, Mass.) in second place with a time of 5:12.58. Senior Lauren Courtney (Ashland, Mass.) crossed the line first in the 500-meter dash with a time of 1:18.03. In the 55-meter hurdles, senior Dannielle Meder (Chicopee, Mass.) finished sixth in 8.76 seconds and in the 55-meter dash senior Lesley Bautista (St. John's, Newfoundland) finished in seventh place with a time of 7.47 seconds.
In the field events, Bautista led the Crusaders with a second place finish in the long jump with a leap of 17'1.25" and a fourth place finish in the pole vault clearing a height of 10'6.00". Pruszko cleared a height of 5'0" in the high jump to earn sixth place, junior Rachel Amaral (Raynham, Mass.) took seventh in the weight throw with a throw of 46'09.50" and freshman Alexandria Culkeen (Beverly, Mass.) was name rookie of the meet (field events) for her throw of 39'05" in the shot put.
Holy Cross returns to action on Saturday, Dec. 13 at the Harvard Open in Cambridge, Mass.
