Women's Track & Field Places 13th At New England Championship

HANOVER, N.H. ­-- The Holy Cross women's track and field team finished in 13th place at the 2007 New England Outdoor Championship, which took place at Memorial Field on the campus of Dartmouth University. The Crusaders totaled 20 points over the weekend to earn their 13th-place finish, while Williams claimed the team title with 108 points.

Sophomore Lauren Courtney (Ashland, Mass.) led the way with a third-place finish in the 400-meter dash, clocking a time of 57.83. Sophomore Dannielle Meder (Chicopee, Mass.) also performed well, claiming fourth place in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.53. Two Crusaders fared well in the heptathlon, with sophomore Alexandra Swiatocha (Mahopac, N.Y.) claiming sixth with 4,022 points and senior Kerilyn Anderson (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) finishing 10th with 3,626 points.

Sophomore Lesley Bautista (St. John's, Newfoundland) added a seventh place finish in the pole vault with a height of 3.35 meters, while freshman Tiffany Reid (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) was ninth in the 100-meter dash (12.77), freshman Maggie Fox (Natick, Mass.) was 12th in the 10,000-meter run (39:54.90), freshman Rachel Amaral (Raynham, Mass.) was 14th in the discus (37.43 meters) and junior Lynn Barowski (Merrimack, N.H.) was 15th in the long jump (5.03 meters).

Three Crusaders placed in the top 15 in the javelin, with sophomore Katherine Clifford (Norwood, Mass.) coming in ninth (35.69 meters), sophomore Jenna Hinchey (Orange, Conn.) finishing 12th (35.25 meters) and freshman Chantal Couture (Taunton, Mass.) placing 14th (34.04 meters). All three of Holy Cross' relay teams also fared well, with the 4x400-meter relay coming in fifth (3:56.72), the 4x100-meter relay placing ninth (49.60) and the 4x800-meter relay finishing 10th (9:30.93).

Select members of the Holy Cross track and field teams are scheduled to continue their season at the NCAA East Regional, to take place from May 25-26 in Gainesville, Fla.
