Track Competes At Day One Of New England Championship

DURHAM, N.H. - The Holy Cross men's and women's track and field teams traveled to Durham, N.H., to compete in the 2008 New England Championship outdoor track and field meet at the University of New Hampshire. After day one, the Crusader women had four athletes place in the top 10, with five others advancing to their event finals. The Holy Cross men added one top 10 finish and placed one athlete into the finals.

For the women, Katherine Clifford (Norwood, Mass.) finished fifth in the javelin with a toss of 121'9", while Jenna Hinchey (Orange, Conn.) finished sixth with a toss of 120'2" and Christie LeTarte (Luenburg, Mass.) came in seventh at 118'11". Lesley Bautista (St. John's Newfounland) finishd third in the pole vault with a jump of 11'5.75".

Qualifying for finals, takeing place on Saturday, were Tiffany Reid (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) in the 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash, Lauren Courtney (Ashland, Mass.) in the 400-meter dash. Lauren Tallon (Lake Forest, Ill.). Dannielle Meder (Chicopee, Mass.) both qualified for the finals in the 100-meter hurdles, and Olivia Pruszko (Monroe, Conn.) advanced in the 400-meter hurdles. After four events in the heptathlon Alexandra Swiatocha (Mahoac, N.Y.) stands in seventh place with 2,325 points.

For the men, Stephen Mandravelis (Nausha, N.H.) finished seventh in the hammer with a toss of 170'10". Michael Ricotta (Cross, River) qualified for finals in the 400-meter dash.

Competition in the New England Championship will conclude on Saturday, May 10.
