Women's Track & Field Completes Day One Of New England Championship

AMHERST, Mass. - Senior Lesley Bautista (St. John's, Newfoundland) took first and set a new Holy Cross record in the pole vault on the first day of the New England Outdoor Championship in Amherst, Mass. Bautista cleared a career-best height of 3.75 meters to claim first place and break her own record, previously at 3.7 meters set at the 2009 ECAC Indoor Championship.
The Crusaders were led on the track by a seventh place performance in the 5,000 meter run by junior Sarah Croteau (Westminster, Mass.) with a time of 17:53.58. Senior Lauren Courtney (Ashland, Mass.) narrowly missed breaking the Holy Cross school record in the 400 meter dash. Courtney finished in ninth place with a time of 57.66 seconds, missing the school record by two one-hundredths of a second. Freshman Erin Linnehan (Litchfield, N.H.) finished 10th in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 15.55 seconds and junior Tiffany Reid (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) qualified for the finals in the 100 and 200 meter dashes with times of 12.14 seconds and 24.72 seconds.
In the field events, senior Katherine Clifford (Norwood, Mass.) finished 14th in the hammer throw with a distance of 45.30 meters, while junior Chantal Couture (Taunton, Mass.) finished 11th in the javelin with a distance of 36.73 meters.
Holy Cross will continue competition at the New England Outdoor Championship on Saturday, May 9 starting at 10:00 a.m.
