Women's Track & Field Takes Seventh At Patriot League Championship

Bethlehem, Pa. - The Holy Cross women's track and field team took seventh place at the Patriot League Outdoor Track and Field Championship on Saturday, at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa. The Crusaders earned a total of 22 points over the two-day meet. Bucknell won the Patriot League title for the fourth year in a row, totaling 207 points on the weekend. Sophomore Dannielle Meder (Chicopee, Mass.) placed fourth in two different hurdle events: the 100m and 400m hurdles. Meder crossed the line in 14.56 seconds in the 100m hurdles and 1:04.08 in the 400m hurdles. Each finish earned four points toward the Holy Cross total. Both of Meder's times qualified her for the New England Championships.

Sophomore Lauren Tallon (Lake Forest, Ill.) was the highest placing Crusader on the day, taking third place in the 400m dash. Tallon crossed the line in 58.09. Sophomore Lauren Courtney (Ashland, Mass.) placed fourth in that event with a time of 58.51. Tallon earned six points for Holy Cross as Courtney earned four. In the heptathlon, sophomore Alexandra Swiatocha (Mahopac, N.Y.) took fifth place with a total of 4,062 points. Senior Kerilyn Anderson (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) placed sixth in that event with a point total of 3,939. Swiatocha gave the Crusaders two more points toward their ultimate total and Anderson earned one point.

The 4x400m relay team took sixth place with a time of 3:59.29. The team earned one point for Holy Cross.

Sophomore Elizabeth Alizzi (Syosset, N.Y.) and freshman Maggie Fox (Natick, Mass.) both qualified for the New England Championship in the 10,000m run. Fox crossed the line in 39:18.17 as Alizzi followed close behind with a time of 39:43.51. They finished 12th and 13th, respectively. Freshman Maureen Meagher (Allentown, Pa.) ran the 800m in 2:15.75, qualifying herself for the New England Championships. She took eighth place in that event. In the discus, sophomore Katherine Clifford (Norwood, Mass.) placed seventh, throwing a distance of 39.34m, qualifying for the New England Championship. Freshman Rachel Amaral (Raynham, Mass.) took eighth in the discus with a throw of 38.80m.

Select members of the Holy Cross women's track and field team will compete at next week's New England Championship at Dartmouth in Hanover, NH. The three-day meet begins on Thursday, May 10 at 1:00 pm and continues through Saturday
