Philadelphia, Pa. - Select athletes from the Holy Cross men's and women's track teams competed at the Penn Relays, Thursday-Saturday, April 28-30.
Newcomer Ann Whalen (Lagrangeville, N.Y.) set a school record in the 5,000-meter racewalk, crossing the finish line with a time of 27 minutes and 30.64 seconds during rain soaked competition on Saturday.
In Friday's events the women's 4x200-m relay team comprised of junior Emily Winacoo (Holden, Mass.), freshman Katie Spinelli (Southington, Conn.), senior Sara Simeone (Nashua, N.H.) and sophomore Kaitlyn Mearn (Milton, Mass.) set a school record with a time of 1:47.50.
Holy Cross' men's 4x400-m relay team made up of freshman Michael Ricotta (Cross River, N.Y.), seniors Brendan Kearney (Haddonfield, N.J.) and Sean Flood (Clive, La.) and junior Robert Leader (Leominster, Mass.) placed second in its heat with a time of 3:24.75.
The Crusaders next compete at the Brown Springtime Invitational on Sunday, May 1 in Providence, R.I.
