PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Beautiful weather, strong performances and New England qualifying times made for a great day at the track as the Holy Cross track and field teams competed at the Brown Springtime Invitational on Sunday, April 26.
The men's team was led in the field by performances by seniors Jonathan Medeiros (New Bedford, Mass.) and Stephen Mandravelis (Nashua, N.H.). Medeiros finished eighth in the shot put with a distance of 13.84 meters and eighth in the discus with a distance of 42.47 meters, while Mandravelis placed eighth in the hammer throw with a distance of 51.96 meters. Sophomore Chris Bergan (Shrewsbury, Mass.) finished fourth in the 5,000 with a time of 16:29.52, while senior Matthew Talbot (West Hempstead, N.Y.) finished fifth in the 3,000 steeplechase with a time of 10:24.28.
The women's team was led on the track by senior Dannielle Meder (Chicopee, Mass.) and freshman Erin Linnehan (Litchfield, N.H.) in the 100 hurdles. Meder finished eighth with a New England qualifying time of 15.49 seconds, while Linnehan finished ninth with a New England qualifying time of 15.83. Junior Olivia Pruszko (Monroe, Conn.) placed fourth in the 400 meter hurdles with a New England qualifying time of 1:05.82, while sophomore Caitlin White (Miller Place, N.Y.) took ninth in the 200 with a time of 26.22. In the field events, junior Rachel Amaral (Raynham, Mass.) finished sixth in the discus with a distance of 38.78 meters, while senior Katherine Clifford (Norwood, Mass.) placed seventh with a distance of 38.08 meters. Freshman Cassie Canastra (Rochester, Mass.) placed seventh in the shot put with a distance of 11.65 meters, while freshman Alexandria Culkeen (Beverly, Mass.) placed eighth with a distance of 11.44 meters and Amaral finished ninth with 11.10 meters.
The Holy Cross track and field teams will compete in the Patriot League Outdoor Championship Friday-Saturday, May 1-2 at West Point, N.Y.
