Worcester, Mass. - The Crusaders placed second with 171 points at the Holy Cross Invitational held Saturday, April 23 at the Hart Track and Field Complex.
Senior Lindsey Bomar (Bristol, Conn.) ran to a first-place finish in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:47.88. Also running to grab first was senior Elizabeth Desmond (Portland, Maine) in the 5,000-m with a time of 18:41.45.
Placing first in field events was junior Jessica Fallon (Nashua, N.H.), who cleared 3.20-m in the pole vault. Finishing second and third in the event was junior Courtney Walls (Tewksbury, Mass.) and senior Kaitlin Palmer (Hampton, N.H.). Walls cleared 3.20-m for second, while Palmer got over 3.05-m.
Junior Rebecca Cole (Barrington, R.I.) finished second tossing a solid 40.65-m in the hammer throw, freshman Amanda Dupuis (East Sandwich, Mass.) leaped to second in the high jump with a height of 1.50-m. Junior Emily Winacoo (Holden, Mass.) also competed in the high jump, placing third after clearing 1.50-m.
Running in the 400-m was freshman Katie Spinelli (Southington, Conn.), who placed second with a time of 1:01.21 and senior Kerry Brassil (Mount Vernon, N.Y.), who clocked 1:03.55 for third place. The Crusaders 4x400-m relay team placed second with a time of 4:10.53, while the 4x100-m relay team finished fourth with a time of 51.56.
Freshman Ann Whalen (Lagrangeville, N.Y.) placed third in the racewalk with a time of 15:36.01.
In other field events, freshman Christina Glass (Holyoke, Mass.) finished third in the triple jump, leaping 9.76-m, as Dupuis placed fifth, hitting 9.59-m. In the discus, sophomore Megan Driscoll (Melrose, Mass.) came in third after throwing 27.75-m. Teammate Theresa D'Aquila (Trumbull, Conn.) threw the discus 22.98-m for fourth.
Rounding out the top-five in other running events was Dupuis, who finished fourth in the 100-m hurdles with a time of 17.81, while sophomore Kaitlyn Mearn (Milton, Mass.) ran the 200-m in 27.55 to place fourth. Sophomore Kara Plunkett (Topsfield, Mass.) placed fifth in the 800-m run with a time of 2:21.96, as freshman Kathleen O'Gorman (West Hartford, Conn.) clocked a time of 13:12.90 in the steeplechase.
Holy Cross was 26 points behind meet-winner Maine that finished with 197 points. The Crusaders next compete at the Penn Relays, Thursday-Saturday, April 28-30 in Philadelphia, Pa.
