WORCESTER, Mass. - First place finishes, ECAC qualifying times and a new school record led to a dominating team performance as the Holy Cross women's track and field team finished first at the Hart Track on Saturday afternoon. The Crusaders claimed first with 294 points, Maine finished second with 146 points, Hartford came in third with 97 points and Central Connecticut claimed fourth with 67 points. Stonehill, American International and Bryant rounded out the bottom three places.
The 4x100 relay team started the day with a dominating performance on the track. The relay team, ran by senior Lesley Bautista (St. John's, Newfoundland), sophomore Caitlin White (Miller Place, N.Y.), sophomore M. Siobhan Straub (Mattituck, N.Y.) and junior Tiffany Reid (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) finished first with an ECAC qualifying and school record time of 47.66 seconds. The 4x400 relay, ran by senior Lauren Courtney (Ashland, Mass.), sophomore Cassandra Anderson (Saugus, Mass.), senior Lauren Tallon (Lake Forest, Ill.) and junior Olivia Pruszko (Monroe, Conn.), finished the day with a first place finish and time of 3:58.81.
In the sprint events, Reid continued her winning ways, taking first in the 100 with a New England qualifying time of 12.44 seconds and first in the 200 with a New England qualifying time of 25.33 seconds. In the 400, Courtney finished second with a New England qualifying time of 58.55 seconds and Anderson came in third with a time of 1:00.38. In the 100 hurdles, Holy Cross finished first and second with New England qualifying times. Senior Dannielle Meder (Chicopee, Mass.) crossed the line first with a time of 15.63 seconds, while freshman Erin Linnehan (Litchfield, N.H.) took second with a time of 15.73 seconds.
In the distance events, Holy Cross was led by a first place finish in the 3,000 steeplechase and the 1,500 meter run. In the steeplechase, junior Claire Luke (Delmar, N.Y.) finished first with a time of 11:40.53 and in the 1,500 junior Maureen Meagher (Allentown, Pa.) finished first with a New England qualifying time of 4:41.17. In the 5,000, junior Sarah Croteau (Westminster, Mass.) finished first with a time of 18:15.00 and freshman Elizabeth Humphries (Siler City, N.C.) finished third with a time of 18:15.09.
In the field events, junior Rachel Amaral (Raynham, Mass.) placed first in the discus with a distance of 38.68 meters and senior Katherine Clifford (Norwood, Mass.) placed second with a distance of 37.02 meters. Clifford also finished second in the hammer throw with a New England qualifying distance of 48.47 meters. In the pole vault, Bautista took first an ECAC qualifying height of 3.65 meters, while freshman Christen Caragian (Hudson, Mass.) took second with a height of 2.75 meters. Senior Kelly Shaw (South Windsor, Conn.) finished second in the long jump with a distance of 4.54 meters.
The Holy Cross women's track and field team will travel to Philadelphia. Pa. on April 23-25 for the Penn Relays.
