DEDHAM, Mass. - Senior Lauren Courtney (Ashland, Mass.) and junior Claire Luke (Delmar, N.Y.) each qualified for the New England Outdoor Championships as the Holy Cross women's track and field team competed at the 2009 Solomon Husky Invitational hosted by Northeastern University in Dedham, Mass. on Saturday, April 11.
Courtney took first place in the 400 with a New England qualifying time of 58.46 seconds, while Luke finished first in the 3,000 steeplechase with a qualifying time of 11:27.76. Sophomore Margaret Molloy (West Hartford, Conn.) finished second in the steeplechase with a time of 11:59.23. Junior Tiffany Reid (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) continued her dominance in the sprint events, taking first in the 100 with a time of 12.65 seconds. Freshman Erin Linnehan (Litchfield, N.H.) placed second in the 100 hurdles with a time of 16.49.
In the field events, the Crusaders were led by a second place finish by Senior Lesley Bautista (St. John's, Newfoundland) in the pole vault with a height of 3.12 meters. Senior Katherine Clifford (Norwood, Mass.) finished third in the hammer throw with a distance of 43.52 meters, while senior Jenna Hinchey (Orange, Conn.) took third in the javelin with a distance of 35.76 meters.
Holy Cross opens the outdoor season at the Hart Track, hosting the Holy Cross Heptathlon on April 15-16.
