Holy Cross Competes In Tufts Hillside Relays

Medford, Mass. - The Holy Cross women's track and field team competed in the Tufts Hillside Relays, Thursday-Saturday, April 7-9.

In the heptathlon, two Crusaders qualified for the New England Championships. Senior Bethany Miczek (Leicester, Mass.) and freshman Amanda Dupuis (East Sandwich, Mass.) competed in the event. Miczek placed fourth with 3,791 points, while Dupuis finished fifth with 3,630 points.

In a different competition at MIT, freshman Ann Whalen (Lagrangeville, N.Y.) set a new school record in the 3k racewalk with a time of 16:03.36. The prior record was held by Lisa Mills `96 with a time of 16:20.6.

Junior Meghan Carrette (North Reading, Mass.) finished second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.87, while teammate Kaitlyn Mearn (Milton, Mass.) placed fifth with a time of 27.48. Both Crusaders also competed in the 100-m, Carrette placed third with a time of 12.95, while Mearn finished sixth with a time of 13.39.

In the field events, junior Jessica Fallon (Nashua, N.H.) claimed the top-spot in the pole vault after clearing 3.21-m/10'6.25". Senior Kaitlin Palmer (Hampton, N.H.) finished third with a height of 3.06-m/10'0.5", while junior Courtney Walls (Tewksbury, Mass.) came placed fourth, clearing 2.76-m/9'0.5".

Holy Cross claimed second, third and fourth in the 400-m. Freshman Katie Spinelli (Southington, Conn.) was the Crusaders' top finisher in the event with a time of 1:01.63. Placing third was junior Emily Winacoo (Holden, Mass.) with a time of 1:01.93, while senior Sarah Simeone (Nashua, N.H.) finished fifth with a time of 1:02.53.

Freshmen Lynn Barowski (Merrimack, N.H.) leaped to second place in the long jump after hitting 5.07-m/16'7.75". Teammate Christina Grass (Holyoke, Mass.) finished eighth after jumping 4.58-m/15'0.5". Grass also placed fifth in the triple jump, landing 9.91-m/32'6.25".

The Crusaders' 4x100-meter relay team `A' finished second with a time of 50.97, while the 4x400-m relay team `A' placed third with a time of 4:11.46.

Senior Elizabeth Desmond (Portland, Maine) clocked a time of 38:42.80 in the 10,000-m to finish third overall.

Thrower Christie LeTarte (Lunenburg, Mass.) finished second in the javelin with a distance of 35.57-m/116'08", while in the hammer throw, junior Rebecca Cole (Barrington, R.I.) heaved 42.14-m/138'03" to place third. Freshman Theresa D'Aquila (Trumbull, Conn.) also competed in the javelin and finished sixth after throwing 27.43-m/90'00".

In the 1,500-m senior Lindsey Bomar (Bristol, Conn.) placed third with a time of 4:51.85, as sophomore Kara Plunkett (Topsfield, Mass.) ran the event in a time of 5:03.78 for fifth-place. Both runners competed in the 800-m placing fifth with a time of 2:24.30 and seventh with a time of 2:24.96, respectively.

Crusaders next compete on Wednesday-Thursday, April 20-21 when they host the Holy Cross Heptathlon on the Hart Track.
