Williamsburg, Va. - The Holy Cross men's and women's track and field teams traveled to Williamsburg, Va. on Friday to compete in the Colonial Relays, hosted by William & Mary. Junior Nathaniel Couture (Taunton, Mass.) took second place in the javelin. His throw of 63.20m (209'9") qualified him to compete in the NCAA Regional Meet. Couture's qualification to the NCAA Regional meet marks the second consecutive season that he has accomplished that feat. He is the first ever two-time qualifier in Holy Cross track and field history. In the women's javelin throw, freshman Chantal Couture (Taunton, Mass.) placed fifth with a throw of 37.47m. Teammate Katherine Clifford (Norwood, Mass.) took seventh in the event with a throw of 35.70m.
Sophomore Lauren Courtney (Ashland, Mass.) placed 12th in the 400-meter dash, with at time of 58.25 seconds. Her time qualified her for the New England Championship Meet for the second consecutive meet. Freshman Claire Luke (Delmar, N.Y.) took eighth in the 3000-meter steeplechase, crossing the line in 12:15.70. Sophomore Sarah Murphy (Auburn, Mass.) placed 10th in the hammer throw. Murphy threw a distance of 40.63m. Teammate Clifford placed 15th with a throw of 39.12m.
Sophomore Jonathan Medeiros (New Bedford, Mass.) placed 13th in the shot put with a mark of 13.61m. Teammate Nicholas LeBlanc (New Bedford, Mass.) took 15th with a throw of 13.51m. Sophomore Andrew Maggio (Chelmsford, Mass.) placed 24th in the 100 meter dash, covering the distance in 11.35 seconds. Maggio also took 20th in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.63 seconds. Senior Christopher Bier (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) placed 17th in the 400-meter hurdles, crossing the line in 57.58 seconds.
The meet, which was originally scheduled for two days of competition, was cut short due to severe weather in Williamsburg, Va.
The Holy Cross men's and women's track and field teams will compete in the Bernard Solomon Invitational at Northeastern University in Dedham, Mass. on Saturday, April 14th. The meet will begin at 10:00 am.
