SMITHFIELD, R.I. - Junior Tiffany Reid (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) crossed the line first in the 100 and 200 meter dash and as a member of the winning 4x100 meter relay team as the Holy Cross men's and women's track and field teams competed at the Bryant Invitational in Smithfield, R.I. on Saturday, March 28.
Reid took first in the 100 with a time of 12.58 and in the 200 with a time of 25.63. Reid teamed up with freshman Rachel Salemme (Chicago, Ill.), sophomore M. Siobhan Straub (Mattituck, N.Y.) and sophomore Caitlin White (Miller Place, N.Y.) to take first in the 4x100 meter relay with a time of 49.03. White also finished second to Reid in the 200 with a time of 26.68. Freshman Erin Linnehan (Litchfield, N.H.) took second in the 100 hurdles with a time of 16.07, while senior Lauren Tallon (Lake Forest, Ill.) took second in the 400 dash with a time of 1:00.97.
In the distance events, the Crusaders were led by senior Colleen Spilka (Hamden, Conn.) with a first place finish in the 5,000 with a time of 18:25.17. In the 800, senior Lauren Courtney (Ashland, Mass.) took third with a time of 2:23.79, while junior Maureen Meagher (Allentown, Pa.) took third in the 1500 with a time of 4:44.80.
Holy Cross was led in the field events by a first place finish in the shot put by freshman Alexandria Culkeen (Beverly, Mass.) with a distance of 12.05 meters. Senior Jenna Hinchey (Orange, Conn.) took first in the javelin throw with a distance of 38.58 meters and senior Katherine Clifford (Norwood, Mass.) placed third in the hammer throw with a distance of 45.75 meters.
The men's team was led by its throwers and jumpers. Senior Stephen Mandravelis (Nashua, N.H.) took third in the hammer throw with a distance of 52.56 meters. In the high jump, sophomore Gregory Liguori (Norwood, N.J.) cleared a height of 1.83 meters for second place, senior Jonathan Medeiros (New Bedford, Mass.) took fourth in the shot put with a throw of 13.75 meters and third in the discus with a distance of 44.36 meters.
Senior Kevin Lucid (New Providence, N.J.) led the Holy Cross distance team with a fourth place finish in the 5,000 with a time of 15:41.47.
The Holy Cross men's and women's track and field teams continue outdoor competition at the Wildcat Invitational hosted by the University of New Hampshire in Durham, N.H. on Saturday, April 4 starting at 11:00 a.m.
