Dedham, Mass. - The Holy Cross women's track and field team competed in its first outdoor meet on Saturday, March 26 at the Snowflake Classic hosted by Northeastern University, at the Solomon Track.
Senior Elizabeth Desmond (Portland, Maine) placed third in the 10,000-meter run with a New England Championship qualifying time of 38:58.56.
Despite the cold weather, the Crusaders swept the top-three spots in the pole vault event. Junior Courtney Walls (Tewksbury, Mass.) cleared 3.12-meter to win the event. Tying for second were senior Kaitlin Palmer (Hampton, N.H.) and junior Jessica Fallon (Nashua, N.H.) with heights of 2.89-meters each.
In the high jump newcomer Amanda Dupuis (East Sandwich, Mass.) placed fourth, clearing 1.52 meters/4'11.75". Dupuis also competed in the 100-meter hurdles, finishing fifth with a time of 17.33. Senior Bethany Miczek (Leicester, Mass.) joined Dupuis in the hurdles, finishing sixth with a time of 18.03. Miczek also competed in the shot put, placing eighth after heaving 9.25 meters/30'04.25".
The Crusaders' 4x100-meter relay team `A' placed second with a time of 51.26, as team `B' finished third with a time of 53:16. In the 4x400-meter relay team `A' finished first with a time of 4:14.24, team `B' placed second with a time of 4:25.55, while team `C' placed third with a time of 4:42.88.
In the 1,500-meter run senior Lindsey Bomar (Bristol, Conn.) clocked a time of 4:55.43 to place second. Finishing fifth in the event was sophomore Kara Plunkett (Topsfield, Mass.) with a time of 4:59.81. Placing fifth in the 800-meter run was freshman Christine Carifio (Haverhill, Mass.) with a time of 2:27.48.
Junior Meghan Carrette (North Reading, Mass.) placed fifth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.16, while sophomore Kaitlyn Mearn (Milton, Mass.) came in eighth with a time of 13.64. Mearn also competed in the 200-meter dash and finished sixth with a time of 28.05.
Finishing sixth, seventh and eighth in the 400-meter dash was junior Emily Winacoo (Holden, Mass.) with a time of 1:01.61, senior Sarah Simeone (Nashua, N.H.) with a time of 1:03.06 and senior Jillian Edmunds (Salem, N.H.) with a time of 1:03.6.
In the 5,000-meter run senior Michela Byrne (Portland, Ore.) came in seventh with a time of 19:46.83.
Rounding out the field events were freshmen Lynn Barowski (Merrimack, N.H.), who placed eighth in the long jump after leaping 4.74 meters/15'6.65", Christie LeTarte (Lunenburg, Mass.), who came in fourth in the javelin throw, hitting 103'04" and Theresa D'Aquila (Trumbull, Conn.), who finished fifth in the javelin with 90'01".
The Crusaders next compete at the Southern Connecticut State Invitational on April 2, in New Haven, Conn. At 11 a.m.
