DEDHAM, Mass. - Junior Tiffany Reid (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) took first place in the 100 and 200 meter dash as the Holy Cross men's and women's track and field teams opened the 2009 outdoor season at the Husky Spring Open Hosted by Northeastern University in Dedham, Mass. on Saturday, March 21.
Reid finished first in the 100 with a time of 12.59, followed closely in second place by sophomore teammate Caitlin White (Miller Place, N.Y.) with a time of 13.07 seconds. Reid crossed the line first in the 200 with a time of 25.50. Senior Lauren Tallon (Lake Forest, Ill.) led the Crusaders with a first place finish in the 400 with a time of 1:01.20, while sophomore Cassandra Anderson (Saugus, Mass.) took first in the 800 with a time of 2:27.60.
Also leading the Crusaders was freshman Sarah Mellea (North Arlington, N.J.) with a third place finish in the 1500 with a time of 5:00.44, senior Elizabeth Alizzi (Syosset, N.Y.) with a second place finish in the 5000 with a time of 18:50.53, junior Sarah Croteau (Westminster, Mass.) in third place in the 10000 with a time of 37:13.62, freshman Erin Linnehan (Litchfield, N.H.) in the 100 hurdles with a time of 16.23 seconds and senior Chantal Couture (Ashland, Mass.) in the javelin with a distance of 37.38 meters.
The men's team was led by the performances of the distance runners. The Crusaders claimed the top three spots in the 10000. Senior Brad Mish (Hadley, Mass.) finished first with a time of 30:57.25, junior Timothy Richard (Attleboro, Mass.) took second with a time of 32:13.11 and freshman Cory Loftis (Branford, Conn.) finished third with a time of 32:15.19. In the field events, sophomore Gregory Liguori (Norwood, N.J.) finished fourth in the high jump, clearing a height of 1.83 meters.
The Crusaders continue outdoor competition next weekend, Saturday, March 28 at the Bryant Invite in Smithfield, R.I. at 10:00 a.m.
