ORONO, Maine - Senior Lesley Bautista (St. John's, Newfoundland) led the Crusaders with two first place finishes as the Holy Cross women's track and field team competed at the Maine Open at the UMaine Field House in Orono, Maine on Saturday afternoon. Holy Cross finished first with 91 points, while Maine claimed second with 87.
Bautista took first place in the pole vault, clearing a height of 3.5 meters, and in the long jump with a distance of 5.28 meters. Junior Rachel Amaral (Raynham, Mass.) finished first in the weight throw with a distance of 15.86 meters, while freshman Alexandria Culkeen (Beverly, Mass.) took first in the shot put with throw of 12.24 meters.
On the track, the Crusaders were led by junior Maureen Meagher (Allentown, Pa.) with a first place finish in the one mile run with a time of 5:00.66. Junior Olivia Pruszko (Monroe, Conn.) finished first in the 500 meter run with a time of 1:19.23, while senior Dannielle Meder (Chicopee, Mass.) and freshman Erin Linnehan (Litchfield, N.H.) took first and second in the 55 meter hurdles with times of 8.64 and 8.68 respectively. Senior Colleen Spika (Hamden, Conn.) finished first in the 3000 meter run with a time of 10:28.37, while junior Sarah Croteau (Westminster, Mass.) claimed second with a time of 10:30.28.
The Crusaders continue competition; traveling to Boston, Mass for the Valentine Invitational hosted by Boston University on Friday, Feb. 13 at 12:30 p.m.
