Maine Defeats Holy Cross

Orono, Maine - The Holy Cross women's indoor track and field team was defeated by Maine, 98-80, on Saturday, Feb. 5 in the two-team meet.
Senior Elizabeth Desmond (Portland, Maine) finished tops in the 3,000 meter run with a time of 10:40.55, while senior Erin Mosely (Carlisle, Mass.) placed third in the event with a time of 10:48.63.
The Crusaders were victorious in both relays. Senior Sara Simeone (Nashua, N.H.), freshman Katie Spinelli (Southington, Conn.), Edmunds and Winacoo sprinted to a first-place finish in the 4x440 yard relay in a time of 4:14.42. In the 4x880 yard relay, sophomore Kara Plunkett, (Topsfield, Mass.), senior Jaclyne Manzi (Plymouth, N.H.), senior Lindsey Bomar (Quincy, Mass.) and freshman Christine Carifio (Haverhill, Mass.) finished with a time of 10:10.24.
Senior Kaitlin Palmer (Hampton, N.H.) placed first in the pole vault after clearing 3.20 meters. Juniors Courtney Walls (Tewksbury, Mass.) and Jessica Fallon (Nashua, N.H.) came in second and third, after clearing 3.20 meters and 3.05 meters, respectively.
Freshman Meghan Carrette (North Reading, Mass.) placed second in the 60-yard dash with a time of 7.68, while Simeone finished fourth with a time of 7.84. Carrette and Simeone also ran in the 200 meter dash, finishing second with a time of 27.62 and fourth with a time of 28.20, respectively.
Finishing second and third in the 800 meter run was senior Julie Brennan Pembroke, Mass.) and Carifio. Brennan grabbed three points for the Crusaders, running the distance in a time of 2.31.05, as Carifio finished the event in 2:33.05 to get two points for the team.
In the 400 meter dash Spinelli placed second with a time of 1:02.32, as sophomore Megan Williams (Westfield, Mass.) came in fourth at 1:04.39.
Bomar and senior Elizabeth Corridan (Holliston, Mass.) ran the one mile, finishing second and third, with times of 5:17.45 and 5:34.04, respectively.
Plunkett finished second with a time of 3:11.83 in the 1,000 meter run as Manzi placed fourth in a time of 3:12.99.
Dupuis place third in the triple jump with a distance of 10.11 meters. Junior Rebecca Cole (Barrington, R.I.) heaved 12.65 meters in the weight throw.
The Crusaders next compete at the St. Valentine's Invitational, Friday-Saturday, Feb. 11-12 in Boston, Mass.
