Crusaders Place Fourth at New England Cup

Providence, R.I. - The Holy Cross women's indoor track and field team placed fourth with 88 points at the New England Cup on Sunday, Jan. 16, hosted by Brown University.
Picking up six points for the Crusaders was senior Lindsay Bomar (Bristol, Conn.), who placed third in the one mile run with a time of 5:16.44. Rounding out the field were freshmen Meghan Lytle (Lewiston, N.Y.) and Catherine Landry (Peabody, Mass.), and senior Laura Snebold (Winchester, Mass.), who finished eighth, ninth and 10th, respectively. Lytle ran the mile in 5:5.11 and collect a point for Holy Cross. Landry ran just under six minutes, with a time of 5:59.00, while Snebold came in 5.56 seconds later.
Seniors Elizabeth Desmond (Portland, Maine) and Erin Moseley (Carlisle, Mass.) earned a combined total of 11 points for the team as they competed in the 3,000 meter dash. Desmond ran the distance in a time of 10:51.82 for third-place, while Moseley came in fourth with a time of 10:53.36.
Junior Emily Winacoo (Holden, Mass.) ran the 500 meter dash in a time of 1:22.70 to place fifth in the event. Freshman Jillian Edmunds (Salem, N.H.) finished behind Winacoo, in sixth with a time of 1:22.87. Also running in the event were sophomores Christine Carroll (North Merrick, N.Y.) and Megan Williams (Westfield, Mass.), who came in ninth with a time of 1:26.43 and 10th with time of 1:28.34, respectively. In the triple jump freshman Amanda Dupuis (East Sandwich, Mass.) leaped 9.98 meters for fourth-place and sophomore Kerilyn Anderson (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) hit 9.88 meters for fifth.
Sophomore Kara Plunkett (Topsfield, Mass.) was the Crusaders' to runner in the 1,000 meter dash, placing fifth with a time of 3:10.05 and collected four points for the team. Freshman Christie Kapothanasis (Westbrook, Maine) and senior Julie Brennan (Pembroke, Mass.) both ran in the event, placing eighth with a time of 3:20.21 and ninth with a time of 3:20.31, respectively.
In the 55 meter hurdles final, freshman Amanda Dupuis (East Sandwich, Mass.) placed seventh with a time of 9.72, while in the finals for 55 meter dash senior Sara Simeone (Nashua, N.H.) finished eighth with a time of 8:13.
Sophomore Meghan Mullaney (Spokane, Wash.) jumped1.47 meters in the high jump for sixth place.
Juniors Jessica Fallon (Nashua, N.H.) and Courtney Walls (Tewksbury, Mass.) competed in the pole vault. Fallon tied for third, while Walls placed fifth, both with a height of 3.10 meters. Also competing in the event was senior Kaitlin Palmer (Hampton, N.H.) who vaulted over 2.95 meters for eight-place.
Newcomer Jamie Curley (Bolton, Mass.) and Williams both ran in the 200 meter dash, finishing eighth and ninth, respectively. Curley ran the distance with a time of 28.46, while Williams finished with a time of 28.54.
Simeone also ran in the 400 meter dash, placing eighth with a time of 1:02.85. Freshman Katie Spinelli (Southington, Conn.) finished ninth in the event, with a time of 1:02.96.
The Crusaders' 4x200 meter relay team placed second, collecting eight points with a time of 1:53.07, while the distance medley team finished fourth with a time of 13:15.94.
Holy Cross travels to New Hampshire to compete at the UNH Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 22, in Durham, N.H.
