New York, N.Y. - The Holy Cross men's and women's track and field teams returned from winter session to compete at the Fordham Invitational Friday, January 11th. They returned strong taking fourth of 14 teams on the men's side and seventh of 15 teams on the women's side. A total of 21 Crusader athletes placed in the top ten 14 of which were in the top five. The women scored a total of 38 points and the men 65.50.
For the women sophomore Rachel Amaral (Raynham, Mass.) was the top finisher for the Crusaders with a first place in the weight throw at a distance of 46-07.40 feet. The Crusaders also took second and third in the weight with junior Katherine Clifford (Norwood, Mass.) finishing second at a distance of 44-05.50 feet and junior Sarah Murphy (Auburn, Mass) in third at a distance of 43-02.25feet. Sophomore Meghan Dunne (Medham, N.J.) was also a third place finisher in the 5000m race with a time of 19:29.62. Sophomore Chantal Couture (Taunton, Mass.) finished first in the first flight finals of the shot put with a distance of 34-11.75.
The men had nine top five finishers. Sophomore Timothy Richard (Attleboro, Mass.) was the top finishers for the Crusaders placing first in the 5000m race with a time of 15:26.25. Finishing right behind him in second place was sophomore Kyle Rougeot (Torrington, Conn.) with a time of 15:26.69. Senior John Meikle (Newport, R.I.) had a second place finish in the pole vault with a height of 13-11.25. In the 60m hurdles freshman Francis McCabe (Tuckahoe, N.Y.) took a third with a time of 9.48. Another third place finish was sophomore Nicholas LeBlanc (New Bedford, Mass.) with a distance of 45-05.25 in the shot put. Senior Kevin Dowd (Broad Brook, Conn.) placed fourth in the triple jump with a distance of 41-08.50. Another fourth place finish was junior Stephen Mandravelis (Nashua, N.H.) with a distance of 47-07.75 in the weight throw. Fifth place finishers were junior Andrew Maggio (Chelmsford, Mass.) in the 60m with a time of 7.19 and junior Sebastian Fidelus (Jersey City, N.J.) in the 1000m race with a time of 2:32.09.
The men's and women's teams will travel to New Hampshire on Saturday, January 19. The meet is set to start at 11:00 am.
