Three Crusaders Set New School Records At PL Outdoor Championship

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Juniors Sarah Dahlstrom (Southborough, Mass.) and Brianna Tabin (South Hadley, Mass.) and senior Stephanie Okpoebo (Chelmsford, Mass.) each set new Holy Cross school records on Saturday as the women's track and field team finished sixth at the 2014 Patriot League Outdoor Championship, hosted by Navy.

Dahlstrom totaled a new school-high in heptathlon with 4,289 points, finishing fifth overall. The previous record was 4,202 set in 1991. Tabin finished second in the 100-meter dash and surpassed the previous Patriot League record of 11.68 seconds with a school record and career-fastest time of 11.68. Okpoebo finished third in the race with a career-fastest time of 11.70. Okpoebo won the 200-meter dash with a new Patriot League and school record time of 24.05 seconds.  Tabin finished fourth in the race with a career-fastest time of 24.58.

Sophomore Catherine Gildea (Milford, Conn.) posted a third place finish in the 800-meter run with a career-best time of 2:13.20 while fellow classmate Caroline Carley (Barrington, Ill.) finished sixth in the event with a time of 2:14.14. Carley also finished sixth in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:35.77. Senior Emily Hughes (Milton, Mass.) also earned two team points for a seventh place finish in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 17:37.59.

The 4x100-meter relay team comprised of Tabin, junior Mackenzie Arndt (Merrimack, Mass.) senior Katie Bobinski (Torrington, Conn.) and Okpoebo posted a second place finish with a time of 47.01. The 4x400-meter team of Okpoebo, junior Payton Shubrick (Springfield, Mass.), Tabin and sophomore Oona Wood (Williamstown, Mass.)  finished sixth at 3:57.86.

In the field events, freshman Alexa Eldracher (Woodbridge, Conn.) and sophomore MaryGrace Brogioli (Wareham, Mass.) finished fourth and fifth in the triple jump with distances of 11.25 and 11.21 meters, respectively. Brogioli's distance was a career-best. Sophomore Elizabeth Provost (Adams, Mass.) finished fifth in the shot put (12.55 meters), sophomore Melissa LaCoste (Amherst, N.H.) finished seventh in the high jump (1.60 meters) and freshman Cassandra Kobelski (Andover, Mass.) finished eighth in the shot put (11.73 meters, career-best).

In the heptathlon, Dahlstrom's top finish on Saturday came in the 800-meter where she took fourth at 2:31.91. Freshman Jennifer Kimball (South Weymouth, Mass.) finished right behind Dahlstrom in sixth overall place in the heptathlon with 4,197 points. Kimball's top finish came in the javelin where she took fourth with a distance of 35.57 meters.

Boston University won the team competition with 203.50 points, followed by Lehigh (140.50) and Bucknell (129). Holy Cross finished with 83.50 points. Okpoebo was named first team All-Patriot League for her performance in the 200 while Tabin was named second team All-Patriot League for her performance in the 100. The 4x100-meter relay team also earned second team All-Patriot League honors.

Qualifying members of the women's track and field team will return to action on Friday and Saturday, May 9-10, at the New England Outdoor Championship beginning at 10:00 a.m.
