Women's Track & Field Breaks School Relay Record At Minuteman Invitational

AMHERST, Mass. – A new 4x100-meter relay school record was set this afternoon as the Holy Cross women's track and field team traveled to the Minuteman Invitational, hosted by UMass. The team of juniors Brianna Tabin (South Hadley, Mass.), Mackenzie Arndt (Merrimack, Mass.) and Katie Bobinski (Torrington, Conn.) and senior Stephanie Okpoebo (Chelmsford, Mass.) set the new school record in an ECAC qualifying time of 46.98 seconds, finishing in second place overall. The previous record was 47.02 seconds set in 2012.

Okpoebo and junior Michelle McGahan (Acton, Mass.) each posted first place finishes as the Crusaders took fourth of 11 teams at the event with 102.50 points. Okpoebo won the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.06 seconds while McGahan took the top spot in the pole vault with a height of 3.40 meters. Okpoebo also finished second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.93 seconds.

Senior Christy Manning (Scarborough, Maine) posted three to-10 finishes while three other Crusaders added a pair of top-10 finishes. Manning placed fourth in the hammer throw (43.45 meters), fifth in the javelin (38.29 meter) and sixth in the discus (39.18 meters). Tabin took second in the 100 with a time of 12.16 and fourth in the 200-meter with a personal-best time of 25.09, sophomore Elizabeth Provost (Adams, Mass.) finished third in the shot put (11.88 meters) and fifth in the discus (39.51 meters) and freshman Jennifer Kimball (South Weymouth, Mass.) finished seventh in the 400-meter hurdles (1:08.26, personal-best) and tied for eighth in the high jump (1.51 meters).

Other top-10 performances included Arndt in the 100-meter hudles (12.51), sophomore Melissa LaCoste (Amherst, N.H.) in the high jump (1.61 meters, tying personal-best) and Bobinski in the 100 (12.60). Sophomore Caroline Carley (Barrington, Ill.) took eighth in the 400-meter dash (59.82), junior Sarah Dahlstrom (Southborough, Mass.) finished ninth in the high jump (1.46 meters) and freshman Cassandra Kobelski (Andover, Mass.) landed tied for tenth in the shot put (11.01 meters).

Two 4x400-meter relay teams also finished in the top-10 as the team of Okpoebo, junior Payton Shubrick (Springfield, Mass.), Carley and junior Fiorella Johnson (Redding, Conn.) crossed the finish line in fifth place with a time of 4:01.30 while the team of Bobinski, sophomore Hannah Carey (Windham, N.H.), freshman Kirsten Gargiulo (Summit, N.J.) and senior Hannah McCormick (Newburyport, Mass.) finished eighth at 4:11.43.

The women's track and field team will return to action on Saturday, April 19, at home against Bryant, Central Connecticut, UMass, Hartford, Maine and Stonehill at 11:00 a.m. The Crusaders will also host the Holy Cross Heptathlon this week at the Holy Cross Track on Wednesday and Thursday, April 16-17.
