Women's Track & Field Takes First At Coast Guard Invitational

New London, Conn.  The Holy Cross women's track and field team opened its outdoor season on Saturday with a first place team finish with 248.50 points at the Coast Guard Invitational as the Crusaders posted seven first place finishes. Senior Stephanie Okpoebo (Chelsmford, Mass.) led the way with first place finishes in the 100 and 200-meter dashes with times of 12.50 and 26.20, respectively.

Sophomore Caroline Carley (Barrington, Ill.) outpaced the field in the 1,500-meter with a time of 4:36.24, junior Emilia Sainato (Albany, N.Y.) won the 100-meter hurdles at 15.62 and senior Mariel Flood (Kinnelon, N.J.) took the top spot in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:08.35. The 4x100-meter relay team also took first at 47.63. In the field events, junior Michelle McGahan (Acton, Mass) won the pole vault with a height of 3.50 meters.

Holy Cross added six second place including junior Brianna Tabin (South Hadley, Mass.) in the 100-meter dash (12.51), freshman Jennifer Kimball (South Weymouth, Mass) in the 400-meter hurdles (1:09.13), Flood in the long jump (5.02 meters), freshman Alexa Eldracher (Woodbridge, Conn.) in the triple jump (10.83 meters) and sophomore Elizabeth Provost (Adams, Mass.) in both the shot put (12.18 meters) and discus throw (34.52 meters). 

Other top performers for the Crusaders included junior Payton Shubrick (Springfield, Mass.) in the 400-meter (1:01.49), senior Lauren Bellerose (Shrewsbury, Mass.) in the 800-meter (2:24.74), junior Abigail Mitchell (Manchester,  N.H.) in the 1,500-meter (4:42.04), freshman Mary Welsh (Manhasset, N.Y.) in the 5,000-meter (18:32.30), junior Mackenzie Arndt (Merrimack, Mass.) in the 100-meter hurdles (16.09), sophomore Melissa LaCoste (Amherst, N.H.) in the high jump (1.57 meters), Eldracher in the long jump (5.01 meters), junior Marissa Romano (Hasbrouck Heights, N.J.) in the triple jump (10.68 meters) and senior Christy Manning (Scarborough, Maine) in the javelin throw (42.78 meters), all of whom posted third place finishes.

The women's outdoor track and field team will return to action on Thursday-Saturday, April 3-5, at the Colonial Relays hosted by William & Mary. Events are set to begin at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
