LEWISBURG, Pa. - The women's indoor track and field team opened full team competition at the 2014 Patriot League Indoor Championship on Saturday as senior Stephanie Okpoebo (Chelmsford, Mass.) finished first overall in both the preliminary (7.57) and semi-final (7.56) heats of the 60-meter dash to advance to tomorrow's final. Okpoebo also finished first in the 200-meter dash preliminary heat with a time of 24.68. The sprinter's times in both events set new Patriot League Indoor Championship meet records.
Other top finishers for the Crusaders included junior Brianna Tabin (South Hadley, Mass.) who took fourth in the preliminary and semi-final heats of the 60-meter dash behind Okpoebo, also qualifying for tomorrow's final with a career-fastest time of 7.71 seconds. Tabin took the eighth and final qualifying spot in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.33. Junior Emilia Sainato (Albany, N.Y.) will compete in the final of the 60-meter hurdles after taking fourth in the prelim (career-best, 8.95) and sixth in the semi-final (8.99).
The 4x800-meter relay team comprised of sophomore Catherine Gildea (Milford, Conn.), freshman Rachel Sowinski (Mountain Top, Pa.), junior Abigail Mitchell (Manchester, N.H.) and sophomore Caroline Carley (Barrington, Ill.) finished in third place with a time of 9:09.40. Other top-10 finishes for the Crusaders included freshman Jennifer Kimball (South Weymouth, Mass.) who took sixth in the high jump with a height of 1.60 meters and senior Christy Manning (Scarborough, Maine) who landed ninth in the weight throw with a distance of 14.27 meters.
The women's indoor track and field team will conclude the Patriot League Championship tomorrow, Sunday, Feb. 23, beginning at 10:00 a.m.
