WORCESTER, Mass. – Sophomore Caroline Carley (Barrington, Ill.) has been named M-F Athletic Patriot League Female Track Athlete of the Week for her performance at the Valentine Invitational last Friday (2/7), as announced by the league. This is the first time Carley has earned a Patriot League weekly honor.
Carley finished third overall, and first among collegiate student-athletes, in the 1,000-meter run at the Valentine Invitational with a career-best time of 2:49.46. She topped the ECAC qualifying standard by nearly seven seconds and was almost six seconds faster than any other Patriot Leaguer in the event this season. Carley's time was also the second-fastest 1,000-meter pace in Holy Cross history.
In addition, Carley ran the anchor leg on the Crusaders' 4x400-meter relay team at the Valentine Invitational, which finished 20th out of 53 teams with a time of 4:00.23. On the season, Carley has run Holy Cross' fastest times in both the 800-meter run (2:13.37) and the 1,000-meter run (2:49.46), while ranking third on the team in the one-mile run (5:08.85). She was also named GoHolyCross.com Crusader of the Week, for compeition from Feb. 3-9.
Select members of the women's indoor track and field team will return to action at the Scarlet and White Invitational at Boston University on Saturday, Feb. 15, at 10:00 a.m. The entire team will return to action for the 2014 Patriot League Indoor Championship on Feb. 21-23.
