WORCESTER, Mass. – The women's indoor track and field team traveled to three different meets this weekend including the NYC Gotham Cup in New York, N.Y., the Yale Invitational in New Haven, Conn. and the Bucknell Mini Meet in Lewisburg, Pa. Juniors Michelle McGahan (Acton, Mass.) and Alexandra Parise (Pine Bush, N.Y.) led the Crusaders as the duo finished tied for second place at the Yale Invitational in the pole vault with heights of 3.30 meters.
Other competitors at the Yale Invitational included sophomores Melissa LaCoste (Amherst, N.H.) and Morgan Zurlo (Glen Falls, N.Y.) who finished tied for sixth in the high jump (1.55 meters) and freshman Samantha Speroni (Palos Verdes Peninsula, Calif.) who finished behind McGahan and Parise in the pole vault (6th, 3.00 meter). Junior Katie Bobinski (Torrington, Conn.) competed in the 400-meter dash, junior Julia Levesque (West Simsbury, Conn.) joined Parise and Zurlo in the 60-meter hurdles and Levesque and freshman Allison Maier (Orange, Conn.) participated in the 60-meter dash.
At the NYC Gotham Cup, sophomore Alex Eckert (Bergenfield, N.J.) was one of two Crusader participants and finished ninth in the pole vault with a height of 3.10 meters. She also competed in the 60-meter hurdles and triple jump. Freshman Kirsten Gargiulo (Summit, N.J.) took 10th in the 1,000-meter run. At the Bucknell Mini Meet, freshman Rachel Sowinski (Mountain Top, Pa.) was the lone HC representative and crossed the finish line in sixth place in the one mile run with a time of 5:19.94.
The Holy Cross women's indoor track and field team will return to full team competition next weekend on Saturday, Jan. 18, at New Hampshire. The dual meet at the Paul Sweet Oval is scheduled to begin at 12:00 p.m.
