CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Freshman Alexa Eldracher (Woodbridge, Conn.) finished first in both the long jump and triple jump to lead the Holy Cross women's track and field team in its first full team competition of the 2013-2014 season at the Harvard Open on Saturday. Eldracher posted distances of 5.28 meters in the long jump and 10.96 meters in the triple jump. Junior Fiorella Johnson (Redding, Conn.) also earned a first place finish in the 500-meter dash with a time of 1:19.54.
Junior Brianna Tabin (South Hadley, Mass.) crossed the finish line in second place in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.97 while senior Stephanie Okpoebo (Chelmsford, Mass.) took third in the final of the 60-meter dash at 7.68. Other third place finishers for the Crusaders included senior Lauren Bellerose (Shrewsbury, Mass.) who finished just behind Johnson in the 500 (1:20.11), freshman Kirsten Gargiulo (Summit, N.J.) in the 800-meter run (2:25.81) and senior Marissa Romano (Hasbrouck Heights, N.J.) who finished behind Eldracher in the long jump (5.17 meters).
Senior Hannah McCormick (Newburyport, Mass.) registered a career-fastest time and fourth place finish in the one mile at 5:12.74 while sophomore Elizabeth Provost (Adams, Mass.) posted a new career-best distance and fourth place finish in the weight throw at 13.88 meters.
The women's indoor track and field team will return to action next Saturday, Dec. 14, at the Jay Carisella Invitational, hosted by Northeastern, beginning at 4:30 p.m.
