KINGSTON, R.I. – Junior Sarah Dahlstrom (Southborough, Mass.) finished second of 18 student-athletes at the 19th annual Rhode Island Pentathlon on Friday at the Mackal Field House. Dahlstrom finished with a career-best 3,310 points overall, winning the shot put with a throw of 11.75 meters.
In the other four events, Dahlstrom set a new-career fastest time in the 800-meter run at 2:30.02 to finish fifth, jumped 1.55 meters in the high jump to take sixth and finished ninth in the long jump with a distance of 4.95 meters. The junior crossed the finish line in 12th place in the 60-meter hurdles, surpassing her career-best time by one one-hundreth of a second at 9.81.
Three other Crusaders also competed at the Rhode Island Pentathlon including freshman Jennifer Kimball (South Weymouth, Mass.), sophomore Morgan Zurlo (Glen Falls, N.Y.) and junior Alexandra Parise (Pine Bush, N.Y.). Kimball took ninth overall in her first collegiate competition with 3,039 points. Zurlo finished 15th with 2,666 points and Parise landed 16th with 2,663 points.
The women's track and field team will open the team portion of its 2013-2014 indoor campaign tomorrow, Saturday, Dec. 7, at the Boston University Season Opener beginning at 10:00 a.m.
