Women's Track & Field Takes Fourth At Patriot League Championship

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Junior Stephanie Okpoebo (Chelmsford, Mass.) was named women's Track Athlete of the Meet as the women's track and field team took fourth at the 2013 Patriot League Outdoor Championship on Saturday, hosted by Lehigh. Okpoebo took first in both the 100 and 200-meter dashes, finishing the 100 with a career-best time of 11.85 seconds and just missing tying the Holy Cross school record by one one-hundredth of a second. She then finished the 200 with a time of 24.65 seconds. Freshman Oona Wood (Williamstown, Mass.) also set a new Holy Cross school record in the 400-meter dash with a season-best time of 57.34 seconds.

Senior Brittany Gorski (Tewksbury, Mass.) crossed the finish line in first place in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:12.57. Sophomore Brianna Tabin (South Hadley, Mass.) finished fifth in the final of the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.46 seconds and senior Melanie Forte (Milford, N.H.) took sixth with a time of 12.65 seconds. In the final of the 100-meter hurdles, sophomore Mackenzie Arndt (Merrimack, Mass.) finished fifth with a career-best time of 15.28 and fellow classmate Emilia Sainato (Albany, N.Y.) took seventh with a time of 15.80.

Junior Amanda Waldron (Walpole, Mass.) ran to a second place finish in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 17:45.93. The 4x100-meter relay team comprised of Tabin, Forte, sophomore Katie Bobinski (Torrington, Conn.) and Okpoebo also finished second with a season-best time of 47.06. The 4x400 relay team of Okpoebo, sophomore Payton Shubrick (Springfield, Mass.), Gorski and Wood took fourth with a season-best time of 3:53.27.

Sophomore Abigail Mitchell (Manchester, Mass.) finished fifth in the 1,500-meter run with a career-best time of 4:39.07. Junior Mariel Flood (Kinnelon, N.J.) crossed the finish line in seventh place in the 400-meter hurdles with a career-best time of 1:05.20.

In the field events, freshman Melissa LaCoste (Amherst, N.H.) landed third in the high jump with a season-best height of 1.61 meters. Fellow classmate Morgan Zurlo (Glen Falls, N.Y.) also finished tied for sixth with a season-best height of 1.56 meters. Sophomore Marissa Romano (Hasbrouck Heights, N.J.) took eighth in the triple jump with a distance of 10.90 meters and sophomore MaryGrace Brogioli (Wareham, Mass.) finished 10th with a distance of 10.71 meters. Freshman Elizabeth Provost (Adams, Mass.) was the top Crusader finisher in the discus with a season-best throw of 42.68 meters and sophomore Sarah Dahlstrom (Southborough, Mass.) finished fourth in the heptathlon with a score of 4,063.

On day one of competition yesterday, the 4x800-meter relay team comprised of Mitchell, senior Kathleen Brekka (Hubbardston, Mass.), freshman Caroline Carley (Barrington, Ill.) and Gorski took home a third place finish with a season-best time of 8:55.82. Ardnt took third in the pole vault with a height of 3.57 meters and junior Sandra van den Heuvel (Nashua, N.H.) added a fifth place finish in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 38:16.42.

Bucknell won the team championship with 183 points. Navy finished second with 141 points and Lehigh took third with 119.25 points. Holy Cross (85.25), Lafayette (76.25), Army (66.25) Colgate (10) and American (1) rounded out the field. 

Qualifying members of the women's track and field team will return to action on Friday and Saturday, May 10-11, at the New England Outdoor Championship.
