Women's Track & Field Travels To New Hampshire And Duke Invitational
Junior Stephanie Okpoebo (Chelmsford, Mass.) set a new school record in the 200-meter dash and sophomore Abigail Mitchell (Manchester, Mass.) set a new record in the 2,000-meter steeplechase as select members of the women's track and field team traveled to the Duke Invitational in Durham, N.C. on Friday and Saturday. Other team members participated in a meet against New Hampshire and Maine in Durham, N.H. on Saturday. Okpoebo crossed the finish line in the 200-meter dash in a time of 24.19 seconds and Mitchell finished the 2,000-meter steeplechase in 7:32.29, both at Duke.
Durham, N.C. – Along with Okpoebo's seventh place finish in her record setting performance in the 200, the junior also finished fourth in the final of the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.10, after recording a career-best mark in the preliminary heat with a time of 11.92 seconds. Mitchell finished fourth in the 2,000-meter steeplechase.
Senior Brittany Gorski (Tewksbury, Mass.) posted a top-10 finish in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:12.16. Junior Sandra van den Heuvel (Nashua, N.H.) took 11th in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 38:08.10 and fellow classmate Amanda Waldron (Walpole, Mass.) took 12th overall in the 5,000-meter run with a team season-best time of 17:53.11.
In the relay events, the 4x100-meter team of senior Melanie Forte (Milford, N.H.), sophomore Katie Bobinski (Torrington, Conn.), sophomore Brianna Tabin (South Hadley, Mass.) and Okpoebo took seventh with a time of 48.10 and the 4x400-meter team of Gorski, Okpoebo, freshman Oona Wood (Williamstown, Mass.) and sophomore Fiorella Johnson (Redding, Conn.) finished eighth with a time of 3:56.68.
In the field events, sophomore Mackenzie Arndt (Merrimack, Mass.) took third in the pole vault, tying her school record height of 3.85 meters. Freshman Melissa LaCoste (Amherst, N.H.) landed seventh in the high jump with a height of 1.58 meters, sophomore Marissa Romano (Hasbrouck Heights, N.J.) took ninth in the long jump (5.14 meters) and senior Kelcey Germain (Auburn, Mass.) took 10th in the hammer throw with a distance of 45.00 meters.
New Hampshire with Maine
Durham, N.H. – Freshman MaryGrace Brogioli (Wareham, Mass.) finished first in the triple jump with a distance of 10.58 meters to lead all Crusader participants. Freshman Alex Eckert (Bergenfield, N.J.) and junior Liann Devereux (Dedham, Mass.) finished behind Brogiolo in second and third place, respectively. Junior Christy Manning (Scarborough, Maine) took second in the discus throw (37.26 meters) and freshman Elizabeth Provost (Adams, Mass.) landed second in the shot put (11.57 meters).
On the track, freshman Victoria Engvold (Niskayuna, N.Y.) finished fourth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:03.60 and fifth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.57. Sophomore Emilia Sainato (Albany, N.Y.) also finished fourth in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.29 seconds.
The women's track and field team will return to action next Saturday, April 13, at the UMass Invitational at 11:30 a.m.
