WORCESTER, Mass. – Junior Stephanie Okpoebo (Chelmsford, Mass.) broke the school record in the 55-meter dash for the second time this season as the Holy Cross women's indoor track and field team traveled to two meets on Saturday. Okpoebo ran at the Tiger Invitational hosted by Roxbury Community College while sophomore Mackenzie Arndt (Merrimack, Mass.) led the Crusader student-athletes at the Crowell Open hosted by Army by placing second in the pole vault.
At the Tiger Invitational, Okpoebo crossed the finish line with a new school-best and ECAC qualifying time of 7.15 seconds. She also finished second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.33. Junior Amanda Waldron (Walpole, Mass.) took first in the 3,000-meter run with a team season-best time of 10:52.01. Senior Brittany Gorski (Tewksbury, Mass.) finished second in the 400-meter dash with a time of 59.76 and fellow classmate Sarah Meinelt (Topsfield, Mass.) finished third in the 800-meter run, crossing the finish line in 2:22.71.
In the field events, senior Kelcey Germain (Auburn, Mass.) and junior Christy Manning (Scarborough, Maine) took second and third, respectively, in the weight throw with distances of 14.74 and 12.50 meters. Freshman Elizabeth Provost (Adams, Mass.) also recorded a top-three finish in the shot put with a throw of 11.71 meters.
At the Crowell Open, Arndt finished the pole vault with a height of 3.40 meters. Sophomore Marissa Romano (Hasbrouck Heights, N.J.) took fourth in the triple jump with a distance of 10.54 meters. Freshman Victoria Engvold (Niskayuna, N.Y.) landed seventh in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:04.44 and junior Mariel Flood (Kinnelon, N.J.) finished tied for ninth in the long jump with a distance of 4.98 meters.
The women's indoor track and field team will return to action on Friday, Jan. 11, at the Go Rhody Invitational beginning at 10:30 a.m.
