Women's Track And Field Athletes Travel To Three Weekend Meets
WORCESTER, Mass. – Members of the women's track and field team competed in three different meets on Saturday against an elite group of division I schools from around the country. The Crusaders traveled to the Tiger Classic in Auburn, Ala., the Wagner Invitational in Staten Island, N.Y. and competed against New Hampshire and Maine in Durham, N.H. Senior Katelyn Hartnett (Danvers, Mass.) took home a fifth place finish in the 1,500 meter run with a time of 4:34.59 at the Tiger Classic. An athlete from Wake Forest finished first, and Hartnett finished ahead of student-athletes from the likes of Auburn, Georgia Tech, Alabama State and Western Carolina. Hartnett also finished 16th in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:15.52.
Other top finishers at Auburn included freshman Mackenzie Arndt (Merrimack, Mass.) who took 12th in the pole vault with a height of 3.40 meters and senior Alexandria Culkeen (Beverly, Mass.) who placed 14th in the shot put with a distance of 12.26 meters. Sophomore Stephanie Okpoebo (Chelmsford, Mass.) finished 18th in the 100 meter and 24th in the 200 meter dashes crossing the finish line with a time of 12.11 seconds in the 100 and 24.72 seconds in the 200.
At New Hampshire, freshman Abigail Mitchell (Manchester, N.H.) earned a pair of fourth place finishes in the 800 meter and 1,500 meter runs finishing with times of 2:27.30 and 4:52.48, respectively. Freshman Maddie Dodge (Rumford, R.I.) took fifth in the 100 meter dash with a time of 13.33 to lead the six Crusaders who ran in that event. Sophomore Emily Hughes (Milton, Mass.) also earned a fifth place finish in the 3,000 meter run with a time of 10:19.71. Freshmen Julia Levesque (West Simsbury, Conn.) and Emilia Sainato (Albany, N.Y.) finished fifth and sixth in the 100 meter hurdles with times of 16.05 and 17.12, respectively. In the field events, sophomore Christy Manning (Scarborough, Maine) finished second in the javelin throw with a distance of 35.27 meters and third in the discus throw with a distance of 38.31 meters. Manning also finished fourth in the shot put with a throw of 10.97 meters. Freshman Cailee Dean (Southhampton, Mass.) also finished third in the triple jump and fourth in the long jump with distances of 10.00 and 5.14 meters.
At the Wagner Invitational, sophomore Mariel Flood (Kinnelon, N.J.) finished fourth in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:10.54. Flood also finished ninth in the long jump with a distance of 4.69 meters. Freshman Marissa Romano (Hasbrouck Heights, N.J.) took sixth in the long jump and triple jump with distances of 4.87 and 10.29 meters, respectively.
The women's track and field team will return to action on Saturday, April 14, when it travels to Amherst, Mass. for the UMass Invitational at 11:30 a.m.
