LEWISBURG, Pa. – The women's track and field team finished up the Patriot League Championship in fourth place on Sunday with sophomore Stephanie Okpoebo (Chelmsford, Mass.) taking first place in the 60 meter dash and 200 meter dash. Okpoebo finished with a time of 7.68 seconds in the 60 and 25.15 in the 200. Senior Erin Linnehan (Litchfield, N.H.) also finished first in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.83 seconds.
Senior Katelyn Hartnett (Danvers, Mass.) made an outstanding comeback to take third with a time of 2:16.78 in the 800 meter after being tripped up and falling in the beginning stages of the race. Freshman Fiorella Johnson (Redding, Conn.) took fifth in the 500 meter dash crossing the line at 1:18.21. Junior Kathleen Brekka (Hubbardston, Mass.) finished second in the 1,000 meter run with a time of 2:56.73. Two relay teams finished second including the 4x800 consisting of Brekka, junior Sarah Meinelt (Topsfield, Mass.), junior Brittany Gorski (Tewksbury, Mass.) and Hartnett with a time of 9:00.43 and the distance medley of Brekka, freshman Payton Shubrick (Springfield, Mass.), Meinelt and Hartnett with a time of 12:02.32.
In the field events, senior Alexandria Culkeen (Beverly, Mass.) took fifth in the weight throw with a distance of 16.14 meters and seventh in the shot put with a throw of 12.00 meters.
Bucknell took home the Patriot League Championship with a total of 164 team points. Navy finished second with 124, followed by Lehigh (108), Holy Cross (70), Colgate and Army (56), Lafayette (42) and American.
Okpoebo, Brekka, Culkeen and the 4x800 and distance medley relay teams all qualified for the ECAC Indoor Championship. Okpoebo will run the 60 and 200 meter dashes, Brekka will compete in the 1,000 meter run and Culkeen in the weight throw.
The ECAC Indoor Championship is set to take place March 3-4 in Boston, Mass. and will conclude the 2011-2012 indoor track and field season.
