Women's Track & Field Preps For Patriot League Indoor Championship

  • The Holy Cross indoor women's track and field team will travel to Bucknell on Friday, Feb. 17 to compete in the weekend-long Patriot League Indoor Championship. Last season, the team finished seventh of eight and were led by sophomore Stephanie Okpoebo (Chelmsford, Mass.) and junior Katelyn Hartnett (Danvers, Mass.) who recorded first and second place finishes, respectively. Okpoebo won the 200 meter dash with a time of 25.32 and Hartnett set the school record in the 800 meter dash finishing second with a time of 2:12.32.
  • Other notable finishes at the 2011 championship included graduate Courtney Burgess who finished third behind Hartnett in the 800 meter dash with a time of 2:15.31 and junior Kathleen Brekka (Hubbardston, Mass.) who finished third in the 1,000 meter run with a time of 2:54.73. Graduate Cassandra Anderson placed fifth in the 500 with a time of 1:17.53, senior Sarah Mellea (North Arlington, N.J.) placed sixth in the one mile with a time of 5:04.48 and senior Erin Linnehan (Litchfield, N.H.) finished sixth in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 9.09 seconds.
  • The Crusaders traveled to Boston, Mass., to compete at the Valentine Invitational at Boston University last weekend. Okpoebo was the top finisher for the Crusaders earning the sixth spot in the 60 meter dash while other top 15 finishers included junior Brittany Gorski (Tewksbury, Mass.) and freshman Fiorella Johnson (Redding, Conn.) who finished 10th and 12th in the 500 meter dash. The 4x400 relay team took seventh place and was comprised of Johnson, freshman Katie Bobinski (Torrington, Conn.), Okpoebo and Gorski.
