BOSTON, Mass. – The Holy Cross women's track and field team traveled to Boston, Mass. on Friday afternoon to participate in the Valentine Invitational at the Boston University Track and Tennis Center. Sophomore Stephanie Okpoebo (Chelmsford, Mass.) was the top finisher for the Crusaders earning the top spot in her 60 meter dash qualifier and finishing sixth overall in the final with a time of 7.74 seconds.
Junior Brittany Gorski (Tewksbury, Mass.) and freshman Fiorella Johnson (Redding, Conn.) each finished third in their respective qualifying heats in the 500 meter dash and Gorski took home the tenth spot in the final heat with a time of 1:17.00 while Johnson finished closely behind her in 12th with a time of 1:17.03. The 4x400 meter relay team added a third top ten finish for the Crusaders crossing the line in seventh with a time of 3:54.63. The team was comprised of Johnson, freshman Katie Bobinski (Torrington, Conn.), Okpoebo and Gorski.
Other top performers for the Crusaders included junior Kathleen Brekka (Hubbardston, Mass.) who finished 19th in the 1,000 meter run and senior Erin Linnehan (Litchfield, N.H.) who also finished 19th in the 60 meter hurdles. In the field competitions, senior Alexandria Culkeen (Beverly, Mass.) finished tenth in the shot put with a distance of 12.18 meters and 14th in the weight throw at 14.81 meters. Junior Kelcey Germain (Auburn, Mass.) finished just behind Culkeen in the weight throw placing 16th with a distance of 14.26 meters.
The women's track and field team returns to action Feb. 17-19 at the Patriot League Indoor Championship at Bucknell in Lewisburg, Pa. with the first day of competition beginning at 12:15 p.m.
