ORONO, Maine. – The Holy Cross women's track and field team recorded a 91-86 win at Maine on Saturday afternoon marking their second first place team finish of the season. The Crusaders finished first in seven track events and two field events to secure the five point victory.
Senior Katelyn Hartnett (Danvers, Mass.) led off the women's track events with a first place finish in the one mile run with a time of 5:13.72 and senior Sarah Mellea (North Arlington, N.J.) finished second with time of 5:17.93. Hartnett also finished first in the 1,000 meter run with a time of 2:58.78. Juniors Brittany Gorski (Tewksbury, Mass.) and Rachelle Sylvia (Westerly, R.I.) finished one-two in the 500 meter run with times of 1:19.45 and 1:22.25. Sophomore Stephanie Okpoebo (Chelmsford, Mass.) took first in the 200 meter dash crossing the finish line at 25.42 and senior Paige Sutherland (Groveland, Mass.) and sophomore Amanda Waldron (Walpole, Mass.) took the top two spots in the 3,000 meter run finishing at 10:20.92 and 10:31.95 respectively.
The Crusaders also took first in both the 4x440 and 4x880 relay events with times of 4:03.44 and 9:50.23. The 4x440 team was comprised of freshman Katie Bobinski (Torrington, Conn.), Gorski, Okpoebo and freshman Fiorella Johnson (Redding, Conn.). The 4x880 team was made up of junior Sarah Meinelt (Topsfield, Mass.), Mellea, junior Kathleen Brekka (Hubbardston, Mass.) and sophomore Hannah McCormick (Newburyport, Mass.).
In the field events, Alexandria Culkeen (Beverly, Mass.) led the way for the Crusaders finishing first in both the weight throw with a distance of 16.02 meters and shot put with a throw of 12.18 meters. Freshman Sarah Dahlstrom (Southborough, Mass.) finished second in the shot put with a distance of 11.54 meters.
The Holy Cross women's track and field team returns to action Friday, Feb. 10 when they travel to the Valentine Invitational at Boston University at 2:45 p.m.
