Women's Track & Field Finishes Fifth At Joe Donahue Indoor Games

ROXBURY, Mass. – The Holy Cross women's track team placed fifth of 14 at the Joe Donahue Indoor Games led by sophomore Stephanie Okpoebo (Chelmsford, Mass.) who finished first in the 55 meter dash with a time of 7.24 seconds, tying her school record she set one week ago in a meet against New Hampshire (Jan. 21). Okpoebo also placed third in the 200 meter dash with a time of 25.22 helping the Crusaders finish with 54.50 overall team points.

Freshman Fiorella Johnson (Redding, Conn) finished third in the 400 meter dash to lead the four Crusaders who competed in the event. Senior Katelyn Hartnett (Danvers, Mass.) and junior Sarah Meinelt (Topsfield, Mass.) finished third and fourth respectively in the 800 meter run with times of 2:12.02 and 2:16.22. Junior Kathleen Brekka (Hubbardston, Mass.) added a top five finish in the 1,000 meter run with a time of 3:00.08 and the 4x400 meter relay team finished second behind overall meet winner Brown with a time of 4:01.09.

In the pole vault event, Crusader freshman Michelle McGahan (Acton, Mass.) finished in the top 10 with a height of 3.05 meters and senior Alexandria Culkeen (Beverly, Mass.) led the way in the throwing competitions finishing fifth and eighth in the shot put (12.38 meters) and weight throw (15.26 meters) respectively.

The women's indoor track team returns to action when they travel to Maine on Feb. 4.
