Crusaders Travel To Rhode Island And Yale

- The Holy Cross women's track and field team continues action over the winter break when it travels to compete at the Rhode Island Sorlien Memorial Invitational on Friday, Jan. 13 and Yale Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 14.
- The Holy Cross Crusaders competed in Rhode Island's Sorlien Memorial Invitational the past two seasons. Last year, junior Melanie Forte (Milford, N.H.) led the Crusaders in the 55 meter dash with a time of 7.48 seconds and a fourth place finish. Forte also placed third in the 200 with a time of 26.94 seconds. In the 55 meter hurdles, sophomore Kylene Carey (East Bridgewater, Mass.) finished fourth with a time of 8.98 seconds. In the 1,000, senior Katelyn Hartnett (Danvers, Mass.) qualified for the New England Indoor Championship with a second place finish and time of 2:58.84.
Last year at the Yale Invitational, Holy Cross' top performers included senior Sarah Mellea (North Arlington, N.J.) who led the team with a sixth place finish and a time of 5:21.99 in the one mile. In the 3,000, graduate Kathleen Kasper (Worcester, Mass.) finished eighth with a time of 11:31.67 and in the 400, sophomore Stephanie Okpoebo (Chelmsford, Mass.) led the team with a ninth place finish with a time of 1:01.13.
- The Holy Cross Crusaders hosted the New Year's Field Day event, and were led by senior Alexandria Culkeen (Beverly, Mass.) with a first place finish in the shot put recording a distance of 12.36 meters. Culkeen also placed third in the weight throw with a distance of 14.96 meters. Freshman Michelle McGahan (Acton, Mass.) was the top Crusader in the pole vault competition finishing in second place with a height of 3.20 meters.
