Women’s Track & Field Competes At Three Different Competitions

WORCESTER, Mass. –The Holy Cross women's track and field team competed in the Crowell Open and Tiger Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 7, and the Dartmouth Relays on Sunday, Jan. 8. The Crowell Open was hosted by Army, the Tiger Invitational was hosted by Roxbury Community College which was held at the Reggie Lewis Center and the Dartmouth Relays was held at the Leverone Field House hosted by Dartmouth.

At the Crowell Open, the Crusaders were led by freshman Mackenzie Arndt (Merrimack, Mass.) who finished in first place in the pole vault, recording a height of 3.40 meters. Freshman Melissa Sheridan (Loudonville, N.Y.) ran a time of 3:14.36 in the 1,000 meter run finishing in fourth place.

At the Tiger Invitational, the Crusaders had a very strong showing from junior Sarah Meinelt (Topsfield, Mass.), senior Alexandria Culkeen (Beverly, Mass.), sophomore Stephanie Okpoebo (Chelmsford, Mass.) and senior Katelyn Hartnett (Danvers, Mass.). Meinelt found herself leading the pack of runners across the finish line in the 800 with a time of 2:24.25. Culkeen was the top finisher in the shot put competition, with a distance of 12.00 meters. Culkeen was the top Crusader in the weight throw, finishing in third with a distance of 15.44 meters. Okpoebo finished in second place in the 200 and 400, finishing with a time of 25.69 in the 200 and 59.70 in the 400. Hartnett finished right behind her teammate in the 400, finishing in third with a time of 1:00.45.

At the Dartmouth Relays the Crusaders were led by senior Erin Linnehan (Litchfield, N.H.) who finished in fifth place in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 9.17 seconds. The team finished in sixth place overall out of eight.

Holy Cross will compete next at the Rhode Island Sorlien Memorial Invitational on Friday, Jan. 13 and then the Yale Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 14.
