Track & Field Kicks Off May At Brown Springtime Open
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Junior Erin Linnehan (Litchfield, N.H.) ran a season-best time in the 100 hurdles and sophomore Brittany Gorski (Tewksbury, Mass.) had a season-best time in the 400 hurdles as the Holy Cross men's and women's track and field team raced at the Brown Springtime Open on Sunday, May 1. Linnehan finished third in the 100 hurdles with a time of 14.86 seconds, while Gorski placed third in the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:05.21.
The relay team of senior Caitlin White (Miller Place, N.Y), senior M. Siobhan Straub (Mattituck, N.Y.), freshman Stephanie Okpoebo (Chelmsford, Mass.) and sophomore Melanie Forte (Milford, N.H.) won the 4x100 with a season-best time of 48.18 seconds. Okpoebo placed fourth in the 100 with a time of 12.57 seconds and finished fifth in the 200 with a time of 25.56 seconds. Freshman Dylan Villescas (Las Cruces, N.M.) led the men's team with a third place finish in the steeplechase with a time of 9:59.33. Freshman Tim Moczula (Edison, N.J.) placed fifth in the 110 hurdles with a time of 15.89 seconds, senior Brendan Medeiros (Fall River, Mass.) placed sixth in the 800 with a time of 1:56.94 and freshman Paul Coulter (Lakeville, Mass.) finished sixth in the 400 with a time of 1:00.64.
Senior Kenneth McKenna (Ossining, N.Y.) led the teams in the field events with a fifth place finish in the discus with a distance of 43.06 meters. Junior Alexandria Culkeen (Beverly, Mass.) placed sixth in both the discus and the hammer throw to lead the women's team. In the discus, Culkeen recorded a distance of 40.08 meters, while she marked a distance of 44.56 meters.
Holy Cross will kick off competition at the Patriot League Outdoor Championship on Friday May 6, continuing on Saturday, May 7.
