Women’s Track & Field Wins Home Meet
WORCESTER, Mass. – Junior Katelyn Hartnett (Danvers, Mass.) set a new school record in the 800, while five Crusaders won individual events as the Holy Cross women's track and field team took home the team title at its home meet on Saturday, April 23. Holy Cross finished first with 236 points, Maine took second with 106, Hartford finished third with 104 points, AIC placed fourth with 66 points and Central Connecticut finished fifth with 46 points.
Hartnett won the 800 with a time of 2:11.28, breaking her own school record time of 2:11.67 set at the ECAC Indoor Championship during the 2011 indoor season. Senior Courtney Burgess (Dracut, Mass.) finished second with a time of 2:16.04. Junior Erin Linnehan (Litchfield, N.H.) crossed the line first in the 100 hurdles, finishing with a time of 14.91 seconds. Senior M. Siobhan Straub (Mattituck, N.Y.) won both the 100 and 200. The senior sprinter finished first in the 100 with a time of 12.53 seconds and took home the win in the 200 with a time of 26.03 seconds.
Junior Alexandria Culkeen (Beverly, Mass.) placed first in the shot put with a distance of 12.19 meters and was the runner up in the hammer throw with a distance of 48.06 meters and in the discus with a distance of 34.19 meters. The 4x400 relay team of sophomore Rachelle Sylvia (Westerly, R.I.), Hartnett, senior Cassandra Anderson (Saugus, Mass.) and sophomore Brittany Gorski (Tewksbury, Mass.) won the race with a time of 3:58.30.
Anderson finished second in the 400 with a time of 59.60 seconds and Gorski finished second in the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:05.74. Senior Rose Calvo (Rocky Hill, Conn.) placed second in the 5,000 with a time of 17:52.99, while Sophomore Kathleen Brekka (Hubbardston, Mass.) finished second in the 1,500 with a time of 4:44.09 and junior Sarah Mellea (North Arlington, N.J.) placed third with a time of 4:45.16.
The Crusaders will continue outdoor action at the Brown Springtime Open on May, 1 at 1:00 p.m.
