Holy Cross Track & Field Competes At Minuteman Invitational
AMHERST, Mass. – Sophomore Brittany Gorski (Tewksbury, Mass.), junior Erin Linnehan (Litchfield, N.H.) and senior Cassandra Anderson (Saugus, Mass.) each earned a first place finish to lead the Holy Cross track and field teams at the Minuteman Invitational hosted by the University of Massachusetts-Amherst on Saturday afternoon.
Gorski finished first in the 400 hurdles with a New England Championship qualifying time of 1:07.24, Linnehan crossed the line first in the 100 hurdles with a time of 15.00 seconds and Anderson claimed first in the 400 with a time of 1:00.16. Senior M. Siobhan Straub (Mattituck, N.Y.) finished second in the 100 with a NEC qualifying time of 12.54 seconds and junior Katelyn Hartnett (Danvers, Mass.) placed second in the 800 with a NEC qualifying time of 2:13.79. Freshman Stephanie Okpoebo (Chelmsford, Mass.) finished second in the 200 with a NEC qualifying time of 25.56 seconds, while Straub claimed third with a time of 26.00 seconds.
The men's team was led on the track by freshman Dylan Villescas (Las Cruces, N.M.) with a third place finish in the steeple with a time of 10:00.31 and a fourth place finish in the 800 by senior Brendan Medeiros (Fall River, Mass.) with a time of 1:55.78. Freshman Tim Moczula (Edison, N.J.) crossed the line in seventh place in the 110 hurdles with a time of 16.00 seconds, senior Alex Johnson (Indianapolis, Ind.) finished eighth in the 400 hurdles with a time of 57.82 seconds and freshman Ross Davies (Salem, N.H.) finished eighth in the 100 (11.62) and 200 (23.55).
In the field events, Johnson finished second in the long jump with a distance of 6.46 meters and junior Alex Martin (Sutton, Mass.) placed second in the triple jump with a distance of 13.52 meters. Junior Chase Bradford (West Bridgewater, Mass.) finished third in the javelin with a throw of 52.98 meters. Junior Alexandria Culkeen (Beverly, Mass.) led the women's team with a third place finish in the discus with a distance of 34.27 meters and the hammer throw with a distance of 45.10 meters. Culkeen also finished fourth in the shot put with a distance of 11.68 meters. Linnehan placed fourth in the high jump with a height of 1.45 meters and freshman Kylene Carey (East Bridgewater, Mass.) placed fourth in the long jump with a distance of 5.18 meters.
The Crusaders will compete at the Hart Track for the first time this season when they host the Holy Cross Decathlon/Heptathlon on April 20-21 and their annual home meet on April 23.
